The Midland University baseball ended their Oklahoma trip on a high Sunday, when they defeated William Woods University, 6-3.
"Williams Woods has established themselves as an outstanding program that won 36 games a year ago," said Jordan Bischel, Midland University baseball head coach. "I was proud of the way our team handled adversity with our backs against the wall. Today was a true team win and the come from behind victory shows the character of our student-athletes. "
After trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning, Shane O'Connor and Jon Needels executed a double steal to score Needles and make it 3-1. In the seventh inning, Midland was down to their last out when a Vinnie Orsi base hit scored two runs and tied up the game, 3-3. William Woods had the winning run on third base in the bottom of the sixth but Dylan Stockton induced a ground ball to send the game into extra innings. The Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the eighth when Ian Nick was hit by a pitch to give Midland a 4-3 lead. With the bases loaded a Dylan Steyer sacrifice fly scored one run then a bases loaded Vinnie Orsi hit by a pitch upped the scored to 6-3.
Needels, Orsi, and Miguel Ramallo had two hits each in the win. Dylan Stockton threw his second complete game of the season, going eight innings and allowing seven hits and just one walk. Stockton had seven strike outs and allowed two earned runs.
After today's contest, the Warriors are now 8-5 on the season. Midland University plays at home on Saturday, March 9th against Valley City State University. The double header is scheduled to begin 1:00 p.m. with the second game following.
