KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Midland University men's basketball team has been named a recipient of the 2016-17 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award.
Midland has received the honor in all five years in which the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award has been recognized.
Midland was one of only 17 NAIA institutions to be honored, and one of three in the GPAC.
"I'm really proud to have our team recognized for its accomplishments in the classroom," said head coach Oliver Drake. "This accomplishment speaks to the type of student-athletes in our program and the importance we stress on all things they do in properly representing Midland University."
The Warriors concluded the 2016-17 season with a record of 21-10 and appeared in the NAIA DII Men's Basketball Championship Tournament for the fourth time in the past five years.
In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2016-17 season. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
