Midland Splits Weekend Series With Missouri State

FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted Missouri State University for a weekend series, opening with a 7-1 victory on Friday night before falling 5-1 on Saturday to the Bears.

Matthew Odoherty struck first for the Warriors with an assist from Parker McInroy for an early goal at the 6:23 mark. Isaac Hood added another before the end of the first period at 15:42, assisted by Tommy Babb and Karl Grafelman, as Midland led 2-0 after one.

The Warriors kept the momentum in the second period as Grafelman opened with an early power-play goal, assisted by Babb and McInroy. Shortly after, Midland tallied back-to-back goals just 31 seconds apart. Odoherty netted his second of the night at 8:23, assisted by John Dube and Jared Wisely, and Albin Augustsson slipped the puck past the goalie at 8:52 with assists from Jacob Measel and Ethan Brown.

The scoring continued as Brown capitalized on a power play at the 10:44 mark, assisted by Babb. Brown added another to close out the period at 19:13 with assists from Grafelman and Hugo Lucacovic, giving Midland a commanding 7-0 lead heading into the third.

Missouri State got on the board early in the third period with a goal at 3:19, but Midland held strong to secure the 7-1 win.

Liam Tereposky played the full 60 minutes in goal, recording 28 saves.

SATURDAY: Missouri State 5, Midland 1

After a scoreless first period, Midland struck first with its only goal of the game at the 10:04 mark as Hood scored with assists from Grafelman and Cardinal Mathieu. Missouri State tied it at 13:02, sending the game into the third period knotted at 1-1.

The Bears took the lead at 8:51 in the third and added another at 13:40 to go up 3-1. Midland pulled its goalie for an extra skater, but Missouri State capitalized with empty-net goals at 14:50 and 18:33 to hand the Warriors a 5-1 loss.

Tereposky played 54:23 in goal, finishing with 25 saves.

Midland (5-13) will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action on December 5 when it hosts the University of Mary (11-6) for a weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.
