Midland Earns Series Split vs. No. 6 Jamestown
FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted No. 6 Jamestown University for a weekend series Friday and Saturday night. The Warriors split the series with the Jimmies, falling 2-1 in overtime Friday before bouncing back with a dominant 8-1 victory Saturday night.
Friday: Jamestown 2, Midland 1 (OT)
Jamestown struck first after a scoreless opening period, capitalizing on a power-play goal at the 13:49 mark of the second period. Midland responded late in the frame as Tommy Babb slipped the puck past the goalie at 17:23, assisted by Ethan Brown, to tie the game at 1-1.
Following a scoreless third period, the game moved into overtime, where Jamestown secured the win with a goal at the 2:27 mark.
Elijah Marchese played the full 62:27 in net for the Warriors, recording 36 saves.
Saturday: Midland 8, Jamestown 1
Midland's momentum started early with two quick goals in the first period. Matthew O'Doherty opened the scoring at 3:51, assisted by Logan Wotton, followed by an unassisted goal from John Dube at 5:55 to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
The Warriors continued to apply pressure in the second period, opening the scoring at 4:12 with a goal from Karl Grafelman, assisted by Tommy Babb. Dube added his second goal of the game at 8:17, assisted by Jacob Measel, pushing Midland's lead to 4-0. Jamestown got on the board in the final seconds of the period with a goal at the 19:55 mark.
Midland kept the scoring streak alive early in the third period as Lasse Richert scored at 1:01, assisted by Leo Milan and Parker McInroy. Just over a minute later, Hugo Lukacovic found the net at 2:02, assisted by Grafelman and Babb. Lukacovic added his second goal of the night on the power play at 6:19, assisted by Jared Wisely. Ethan Brown capped off the scoring with a power-play goal, assisted by Lukacovic and Babb, as Midland earned the 8-1 win over No. 6 Jamestown.
Marchese played all 60 minutes in goal Saturday, making 44 saves.
Midland (6-15-1) will travel to Minot, North Dakota, to face Minot State in a weekend series Friday, Jan. 16, and Saturday, Jan. 17. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
