No. 18 Midland Drops Weekend Series at No. 11 UMary
BISMARCK, N.D. – No. 18 Midland University traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota, to face No. 11 UMary in a weekend series, dropping both games, 3-1 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.
FRIDAY: UMary 3, Midland 1
UMary opened the first period with an early goal at the 0:24 mark to take a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Jack Olson scored for Midland, assisted by Matthew O'Doherty and Jared Wisely, at 4:30 to tie the game. UMary regained the lead with a power-play goal at 11:46, ending the first period ahead 2-1.
The final goal of the game came from UMary in the second period at 19:33, as Midland was held scoreless in the second and third periods, resulting in a 3-1 loss.
SATURDAY: UMary 5, Midland 3
Ethan Brown put Midland on the board first in the opening period with an unassisted goal at 11:21, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
UMary responded in the second period with three consecutive goals at 5:23, 9:56, and 12:35 to take a 3-1 lead. Hudson Dilworth broke Midland's scoring drought with an unassisted goal at 13:18 to cut the deficit to 3-2. UMary answered shortly after with a power-play goal at 16:56 to extend the lead to 4-2. As the period was closing, Karl Grafelman scored an unassisted power-play goal at 18:44 to bring Midland within 4-3.
UMary scored the final goal of the game in the third period at 2:37, securing a 5-3 victory.
Midland (6-19-1) will have a quick turnaround as they face No. 1 Minot State on Sunday, Feb. 1. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Minot, North Dakota.
