Cyclones Storm Back to Defeat No. 19 Warriors in Shootout

AMES, Iowa – No. 19 Midland University traveled to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State in a one-game contest Friday night. Iowa State mounted a comeback in a shootout, handing Midland a tough defeat.

Midland struck first in the opening period with a goal by Matthew Odoherty, assisted by Ethan Brown and Parker McInroy, at the 5:10 mark to take a 1-0 lead.

Iowa State tied it early in the second period with a power-play goal at 2:06. Midland regained momentum, capitalizing on three straight power-play opportunities to score three goals: Brown at 9:28, assisted by Karl Grafelman and Tommy Babb; Grafelman at 12:54, assisted by Brown and Brady Wicklund; and McInroy at 14:24, assisted by Odoherty and John Dube, giving the Warriors a 4-1 lead.

Iowa State rallied late in the third period, scoring three goals at 7:11, 7:32, and 18:34 to tie the game at 4-4 and send it into overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game was decided in a six-round shootout, with Iowa State netting the final goal for the win.

Goalie Tereposky played all 65 minutes, recording 21 saves.

Midland (6-21-1) will return home for a two-game weekend series against Drury (20-2) on Feb. 13-14. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
