No. 2 Warriors Dominate Weekend Series in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS — Back in action after a weekend off, No. 2-ranked Midland University traveled to the Twin Cities for a two-game set with the University of Minnesota. The Warriors controlled the opener on Saturday with a 14–1 win, then closed out the weekend with a 7–0 shutout on Sunday afternoon inside Ridder Arena.
SATURDAY: Midland 14, Minnesota 1
It took less than a minute for the Warriors to get the scoring started as Camryn Falloon recorded her first collegiate goal at the 39-second mark off an assist from Taylor Bell. Midland added three more goals in the period — all from the stick of Victoria Campbell, who completed a rare first-period hat trick.
Campbell scored on a power-play tally at the 10:10 mark from Callie Maguire and Ashlyn Kuffler. Two minutes later, Kiara McGregor provided the assist, and Grace Page assisted on Campbell's third goal at 16:01. Midland led 4–0 after the first.
Midland wasted no time in the second period. Just 24 seconds in, Jaicee Huberdeau scored off a feed from Bell. Three more Warriors scored in the period.
Maguire found the net at 1:27 off assists from Makenna Larson and Ava Matthews-McCulley. At 5:39, Brynn Tosh scored unassisted. Kennedy Wood added an 8–0 cushion just past the midway point, with Tosh and Brooke Barylski assisting.
The Warriors continued to pour it on in the third, beginning with Darbi Poole's goal at 3:04, assisted by Huberdeau. Midland netted six goals in the final period, coming from Jordan Bell, Maguire, Page, Taylor Bell, and Larson. Jordan Bell scored unassisted; Maguire's goal came via an assist from Katie McNair; Page scored with assists from Tosh and Haley Blaine; and Huberdeau and McNair assisted Taylor Bell. Campbell added the final assist of the night.
Brynn Knaus earned the win for Midland, allowing just one goal. (Complete goalie statistics were unavailable.) The victory marked her fifth of the season.
SUNDAY: Midland 7, Minnesota 0
Midland started fast again in Sunday's finale with two goals in the first two minutes. Poole opened the scoring at 1:32 off an assist from McGregor. Less than 20 seconds later, Poole struck again, this time assisted by Falloon. The Warriors carried a 2–0 lead into the intermission.
Falloon extended the lead early in the second with an unassisted goal at 3:34. Barylski added another at 13:01 off assists from Davanna Ditto and Page. Bell capped the period with a goal at 18:55, assisted by Falloon and Poole, giving Midland a 5–0 advantage.
On the power play to start the third, Kuffler scored at 1:29 off helpers from McNair and Maguire. Page closed out the scoring at 10:14 with an assist from Tosh. The Warriors killed the remaining 9:46 to secure their 11th shutout of the season.
Meghan Stewart earned her ninth win and seventh shutout, playing the full game in goal. (Complete goalie statistics were unavailable.)
Midland (20–1–2) will look to close out the semester strong when it hosts Minot State (6–4–5) on Dec. 5–6 in Fremont, Nebraska. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday inside Sidner Ice Arena.
