No. 2 Warriors Split Weekend Series with No. 6 Minot State
FREMONT, Neb. — It was a top-10 battle between a pair of Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) programs this weekend in Fremont as No. 2 Midland University hosted No. 6 Minot State University. After dropping the first game of the series 2-0, the Warriors bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Beavers on Saturday.
FRIDAY: Minot State 2, Midland 0
The Warriors were unable to find their groove Friday evening as they played inside Sidner Ice Arena for the first time in nearly a month. Minot State took the lead early in the first period—just a few seconds into the fourth minute—and held that advantage into the final frame.
In the third, the Beavers capitalized on a power-play opportunity to add an insurance goal at the 11:16 mark. From there, Minot State skated its way to the win, keeping Midland off the scoreboard for the first time since November 2024. The Beavers finished 1-for-3 on the power play while killing off Midland's lone chance.
Natalie Rampton took the loss for the Warriors, making 18 saves while going the distance in goal.
SATURDAY: Midland 3, Minot State 1
Looking to respond after the series opener, the Warriors came out strong with a pair of goals in the first period Saturday. Heidi Danners netted the opening goal off a feed from Haley Blaine at the 15:35 mark. A few minutes later, Victoria Campbell streaked down the ice for a shorthanded breakaway goal at 18:23, giving Midland a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
Midland added another goal early in the third period. Just under five minutes in, the Warriors went on the power play, and Ashlyn Kuffler converted off a pass from Katie McNair to make it 3-0. The score remained that way until the final frame.
In the third, Minot State spoiled the shutout with a power-play goal at the 3:32 mark. It was the Beavers' only tally of the afternoon as the Warriors secured the weekend split with a 3-1 victory.
Meghan Stewart earned the win with 18 saves. Midland held a narrow shot advantage, 24–19.
Midland (21-2-2) will now take a break from competition until after the New Year as the semester winds down. The Warriors return to action January 22–24 in St. Louis, Missouri, at the WMCH Showcase. They'll face Jamestown, Liberty, and Maryville from Thursday through Saturday before participating in the annual WMCH All-Star Game on Sunday.
