No. 2 Warriors Open Pool Play with Shutout Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Pool play at the 2026 ACHA Women's Division I National Championship began Wednesday in St. Louis, as No. 2-seeded Midland University faced No. 11-seeded University of Massachusetts. The Warriors scored twice in the opening period and cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Minutewomen.

Haley Blaine opened the scoring with an assist from Brooke Barylski at the 6:44 mark of the first period. Just before the intermission, Callie Maguire added an insurance goal with 40 seconds remaining. Makenna Larson recorded the assist as Midland carried a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Early in the second period, UMass was whistled for an interference penalty just past the five-minute mark. Midland capitalized on the ensuing power play, as Katie McNair found the back of the net with Victoria Campbell earning the assist to make it 3-0.

UMass was sent to the penalty box once more in the period in a game that featured just two penalties. Midland was unable to convert on that opportunity, and both teams skated through a scoreless third period.

Brynn Knaus earned the win in goal with six saves over 60 minutes of play. Midland outshot UMass 60-6.

Next up, Midland will face No. 7-seeded Adrian on Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the NHL Arena inside the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
