Bio

Coach Jake McThenia was named head coach of the Midland University Shotgun team in 2020. McThenia took over the role after two years of serving as a graduate assistant on the team (2018-19, 2019-20). During his time as the Warriors' head coach, McThenia has coached his team to six team event national championships, four top-five overall team finishes, four individual national champions, 11 All-Americans, 31 Prairie Circuit All-conference honorees, and a Prairie Circuit conference championship in 2024. 

In his time at Midland as an assistant, McThenia was a part of two conference title teams. Before coaching, McThenia was a student at Midland University and a member of the shotgun team from 2014 to 2018. McThenia was on Midland's first-ever national championship team (2016-17), three conference champion teams (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-2018), a runner-up national championship team (2015-16), and a 2018 Prairie Circuit All-Conference Honoree. 

McThenia is originally from Westminster, Maryland, and graduated from Midland with a Bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Coaching before continuing his education with a Master's degree in Adult Organization and Leadership.

Other than the competition, McThenia's teams also work with the Grand Passage Sportsmen with their Youth Shooting Day, where they help instruct novice/youth shooters in the different games of Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.
