Warriors Welcome Back Viers as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University and head men's basketball coach Tyler Erwin have announced the hiring of Caleb Viers as an assistant coach for the Warriors men's basketball program.

Viers returns to Midland after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College. During his time with the Tritons from 2024 to 2026, he assisted with player development, recruiting, scouting, and game preparation.

Prior to Iowa Central, Viers spent two seasons on Midland's coaching staff as a graduate assistant from 2022 to 2024. During his first stint with the Warriors, he helped recruit three all-conference players while assisting with day-to-day operations, skill development, scouting reports, and opponent preparation.

Viers originally joined the Midland staff prior to the 2022-23 season after spending one year as a student coach at Central College. During his time at Central, he also competed for two seasons as a member of the Dutch men's basketball program.

"We are excited to have Coach Viers back at Midland," head coach Tyler Erwin said. "He brings a familiar face to our university and basketball program, along with two years of junior college coaching experience from his time at Iowa Central. His on-court coaching and recruiting connections throughout the Midwest will help our program continue to move forward."

A native of Lone Tree, Iowa, Viers earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Central College in 2022. He later completed his master's degree in sports administration and leadership from Midland in 2024.

"I'm super excited to be back at Midland and to continue building upon the success of this program," Viers said. "Coach Erwin has created a great culture within the program, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to work alongside him and invest in our student-athletes both on and off the court. Midland has always felt like home to me, and I'm looking forward to helping the Warriors compete for championships."

The Warriors are coming off the 2025-26 season and continue preparations for the upcoming campaign under Erwin and his staff.
