White Reaches Semifinals at ISC Championships
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Midland University's Kaeden White competed at the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley this past week, advancing to the national semifinals. White qualified as the No. 5 seed out of 24 bowlers, winning two matches before falling to the eventual champion.
White earned his spot at nationals after finishing tied for third out of 195 participants at the ISC Sectionals, posting a total pinfall of 1,371 and averaging 228.5 over six games. In the qualifying round to determine bracket seeding, he opened with a 245 before adding games of 164, 212, 184, 209, and 221. His 1,235-pin total secured him the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye.
In the second round of match play Tuesday, White defeated No. 21 seed Hayden Tarris of Indiana Tech with a three-game total of 655, winning by 22 pins to advance to the quarterfinals.
White continued his run Wednesday with a quarterfinal victory over No. 4 seed Jacob Holste of Mount Mercy. White posted a 553 three-game total, topping Holste's 513 to move on to the televised semifinals against St. Ambrose's Tyler Close.
In Saturday's one-game semifinal, Close rolled a 217 while White finished with a 164, ending his run in the final four. Close went on to defeat Landin Jordan of Savannah College of Art and Design, 200-176, to claim the national championship.
"Kaeden has had a very incredible year, making three TV appearances over the last nine months," commented head coach Britney Brown. "Though this was not the outcome he expected, he was unbelievable to watch through it all. I've seen the best of his mental game and physical game in many moments this week. He demonstrated resiliency, class, and was just an outstanding competitor through it all. It's no surprise he made it to the semi-finals once again; his grit and determination to succeed are beyond a level of comprehension. I am so very proud of the way he carries himself, win or lose, and the way he represents Midland. He will be back on the main stage soon enough."
