Warriors Finish Sixth at Blue River Classic
LINCOLN,Neb. - Midland University got their season underway this week, traveling down to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the Blue River Classic on Wednesday and Thursday. After completing 54 holes of golf over the two days, the Warriors finished tied with Mount Marty for sixth place out of 16 teams, with a final total score of +47 after three rounds.
Luke Friedrichsen highlighted the tournament for the warriors, shooting even par (72) in his first round, +2 in his second round (74), before finishing with a +2 (74) in his final round on Thursday. He was able to knock in 11 birdies throughout the tournament, ultimately earning a tie for 12th place out of 87 golfers, with a total score of +4 (220).
Janlo Zaayman was Midland's next best finisher, finishing in a tie for 28th with a total score of +9 (225). Zaayman shot scores of +2 (74) in rounds one and three with a second round of +5 (77) sandwiched in the middle.
Tevin Cunningham placed 44th, with the highlight of his tournament coming in his second round on Wednesday when he scored an eagle on the par five 17 and finished the round at +2 (74), ultimately putting his three-round total of +19 (235). Brady Davis followed closely behind, tied for 45th, with a total score of +20 (236). Rounding out the Warriors' lineup was Cole Dryak and Jude Walz, who both tied for 49th place with a score of +21 (237).
Winning the tournament outright was Southeast Community College with a score of -13 while Hayden Delaloye won the individual competition at -10. Delaloye had scores of even par (72) and -3 (69) in his first two rounds before posting a -7 (65) in his final round to shoot up to the top of the leaderboard.
The Warriors will be back on the golf course on September 22-23 as they travel to Silvis, Illinois to compete in the NAIA Preview Invitational.
