Warriors Fall at Fifth-Ranked William Penn
OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Midland University continued Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) play on Saturday, traveling to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to take on No. 5 William Penn University. The Warriors struggled to generate offense on the road as the Statesmen earned a 20-0 victory.
William Penn wasted little time taking control in the opening quarter, striking five times to build a 5-0 lead. Everett Breniser opened the scoring just 1:19 into the game before Kenny Bohney and Max Barr added goals midway through the frame. Matt Scott and Breniser each found the net late in the quarter to cap the early surge, as Midland was outshot 20-4 in the opening period.
The Statesmen continued to extend their lead in the second quarter, adding four more goals. Breniser completed his hat trick early in the period, while Bohney and Harley Williams each scored to push the advantage to 9-0 at halftime.
Out of the break, William Penn continued to pull away with a dominant third quarter, scoring seven times. Scott recorded a pair of goals in the stretch, while Breniser added two more to pace the offense. Goals from Williams, Blake Cyboron, and Barr extended the lead to 16-0.
William Penn closed out the contest with four goals in the final quarter. Williams and Scott each added to their totals, while Bohney found the net once more as the Statesmen secured the 20-0 win.
The Warriors were outshot 68-13 in the contest. Sean Erickson played the entire game in goal, recording 17 saves on 37 shots on target.
Midland (2-5, 1-3 HAAC) returns home to host Ottawa (1-8, 0-3 HAAC) on Wednesday, April 1, at Heedum Field. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
