Warriors Open Season Strong at Spire Relays
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Midland University opened its season on Saturday at the Spire Relays, held at the Lansing High School Natatorium and hosted by the University of Saint Mary. The event, composed entirely of relays, saw the Warriors deliver strong performances throughout the day. Midland's men's team won eight of 12 events to claim first place overall, finishing ahead of Saint Mary and Dordt University.
Midland captured victories in all three 3x100-yard races, finishing the butterfly in 2 minutes, 43.57 seconds; the backstroke in 2 minutes, 44.81 seconds; and the breaststroke in 3 minutes, 7.87 seconds.
The Warriors also excelled in the freestyle relays, taking not only first place but also second in each of the 200-, 400-, and 800-yard events.
Rounding out the wins for the men, Midland secured first place in the 3x500-yard (1,500 free) relay with a time of 15 minutes, 22.97 seconds, and in the 400-yard 4x100 individual medley relay with a time of 3 minutes, 55.58 seconds.
On the women's side, the Warriors competed in four of the 12 events. They earned runner-up finishes in the 3x100-yard backstroke (3:18.53) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:09.24). Midland also placed third in the 3x500-yard (1,500 free) relay with a time of 18:20.86 but was disqualified from the 200-yard freestyle relay due to an early start.
Both Warrior squads will return to the pool on October 25 when they host Minnesota Morris and Nebraska Wesleyan in Fremont.
