Warriors Take to the Track at Wayne State Invite
WAYNE, Neb. – Athletes representing Midland University were back on the oval and in the field Friday, competing at the Wildcat Indoor Invitational. The meet, hosted by Wayne State College, featured competitors from 13 regional schools inside the Wildcat Dome.
Aiden Mountain reached the finals of the 60 meters, placing eighth in the prelims before moving up a spot in the final with a time of 7.12 seconds. Jason Jeffers narrowly missed the finals, finishing 13th in the prelims with a time of 7.15.
Ja'Myri Bernard recorded a top-10 finish in the 200 meters, placing 10th with a time of 22.67. Chris Medlock finished 13th in the 400 meters at 50.16, while Christian Olsen placed 15th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:26.55.
Midland posted one of its strongest performances in the 800 meters. Koen Steenblok won the event with a time of 1:52.97, while Lucas Hjortkjaer placed third in 1:56.71 and Braden Taylor followed closely in fourth at 1:57.19.
The 3,000 meters saw three Warriors place in the top 15. Jorge Vizcaino Fernandez and Victor Vizcaino Fernandez finished 10th and 11th, respectively, with nearly identical times of 9:23.22 and 9:23.24. Kelvin Korir placed 14th at 9:29.65.
In the vertical jumps, Brendan Walton cleared 1.77 meters in the high jump to place 13th, while Walker Ott finished ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters.
Tae Marks made his debut in the long jump with a fourth-place finish, reaching 6.68 meters. Mountain added a 13th-place jump of 6.23 meters. Rounding out the horizontal jumps, Walton placed 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.96 meters.
In the throws, Caleb Wagner recorded a pair of solid performances. He placed 15th in the shot put with a distance of 13.33 meters and finished 11th in the weight throw at 14.62 meters.
Midland will make one final push before the conference meet next week, traveling to Yankton, South Dakota, for the Mount Marty Last Chance meet. Competition is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 13.
