Warriors Post 16 Top-Five Finishes at Last Chance Meet
YANKTON, S.D. – Midland University sent a handful of athletes to the Mount Marty Last Chance Meet on Friday, looking to secure final qualifying marks before the postseason. The Warriors joined competitors from five other schools inside the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton, South Dakota. Despite a smaller field, Midland recorded several top-10 finishes, including 16 top-five placings on the day.
Midland placed three sprinters in the top six of the 60-meter dash. Aiden Mountain led the group with a fourth-place finish in 7.13 seconds, followed closely by Jason Jeffers in fifth at 7.14 and Ja'Myri Bernard in sixth at 7.19.
In the 200 meters, Raheem Richards finished as the runner-up in 22.47 seconds, while Bernard added a fifth-place effort in 23.13 seconds.
Richards carried his momentum into the 400 meters, winning the event in 50.16 seconds. Chris Medlock added a top-10 finish, placing eighth in 52.32 seconds.
The Warriors turned in a strong showing in the 800 meters with four top-seven finishes. Braden Taylor placed second in 1:59.31, followed by Christian Olsen in third at 2:01.13 and Noah Sherman in fourth at 2:05.90. Preston Penney finished seventh in 2:11.33.
Jay Stoa III recorded a fourth-place finish in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:18.13. In the mile, Kelvin Korir claimed runner-up honors in 4:53.05, while Stoa added an eighth-place finish in 5:38.12.
Marcos Riano placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.62 seconds and also competed in the pole vault, finishing 10th with a clearance of 3.15 meters.
In the field events, Jonathan Edberg placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.86 meters, while Brenden Walton was fifth at 1.76 meters. Walton also added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.83 meters.
Mountain recorded a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.43 meters. Jeffers placed seventh at 6.00 meters, and Mel-Lucas Mosetter finished ninth at 5.92 meters.
In the weight throw, Caleb Wagner placed sixth with a throw of 14.03 meters, followed by Federico Migliano in eighth at 13.63 meters.
Midland will next compete at the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day meet is scheduled for Feb. 20-21 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
