Warriors Send Small Groups to Pair of Meets

DES MOINES, Iowa – After a mid-week meet was canceled due to weather, Midland University sent a pair of small groups to a pair of meets as it makes final preparations before the conference meet. On Friday, a group of jumpers made the short hop over to Des Moines, Iowa for the 2024 Drake Relays. Saturday saw a pair of athletes travel to Baldwin City, Kanas for the Zack Kindler Wildcat Open.

DRAKE RELAYS

Robert Atwater, Ross McMahon, and KeRon Blackwell all took to the high jump inside the blue oval at Drake Stadium. Blackwell came up short of clearing the opening height while McMahon placed 8th with a height of 2.03m. Atwater set a new season-best in the event, clearing 2.14m. His height moves him up to fourth all-time in program history alongside Ben Zuch ('11).

On Saturday, Atwater added a 4th place finish in the long jump with a jump of 7.41m.

ZK WILDCAT OPEN

Mats Albertz and Caleb Wagner were the lone competitors representing Midland on Saturday. In a fast-paced schedule due to weather, Albertz ran in the 100m and 200m with minimal rest in between. He placed 9th in the 100m with a time of 11.36 and then recorded a time of 22.97 for 8th in the 200m.

Wagner took to the field in the shot put. On his third and final attempt, he tallied a throw of 12.12m to place 16th.

Next weekend, Midland will join the rest of the conference athletes at the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships. The two-day meet will be hosted by Northwestern College on May 3-4 in Orange City, Iowa. The meet gets underway at noon on Friday followed by a 9:00 a.m. start on Saturday.
