Warriors Open Outdoor Season with Strong Showing
FAYETTE, Mo. — Midland University opened its 2026 outdoor track and field season at the Central Methodist Open. Hosted by Central Methodist University at the Hairston Track and Field Complex, multiple Warriors recorded top-10 and standout performances.
Aiden Mountain secured seventh place in the long jump with a mark of 6.51 meters.
In the hammer throw, Federico Migliano placed fifth with a throw of 47.58 meters.
Jonathan Edberg led the field in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters to finish first. He also recorded a strong performance in the triple jump, placing third with a mark of 12.68 meters.
Josiah Meyer placed second in the javelin with a throw of 49.99 meters.
As a unit, the Warriors secured second place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.55 seconds.
Four Warriors placed in the top 10 of the 1,500-meter race. Lucas Hjortkjaer led the way in third with a time of 4:03.92, while Keon Steenblok finished fourth in 4:04.83. Christian Olsen (4:23.65) and Victor Fernandez-Vizcaino (4:24.40) rounded out the group with ninth- and 10th-place finishes, respectively.
Raheem Richards paced the field in the 400-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 49.64 seconds. Triston Collins also recorded a top-10 finish, placing ninth in 54.65.
Brenden Walton secured two top-10 finishes on the day, placing third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.68 meters and eighth in the high jump at 1.71 meters.
Adding to the Warriors' list of top-10 finishes, Jameson Painter placed 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13.
Hjortkjaer also recorded a runner-up finish in the 800-meter race, clocking a time of 1:55.72.
Painter notched his second top-10 performance of the day in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh in 22.09.
Victor Fernandez-Vizcaino (10:12.72) and Jorge Fernandez-Vizcaino (10:12.78) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter race.
"The athletes competed well and did a great job handling the heat," said head coach Daniel Gerber. "It isn't very often we experience weather this hot at any point in our season, let alone to start it. It was a strong opener and gives us a lot to build on moving forward."
The Warriors will travel to Bolivar, Missouri, to compete in the Southwest Baptist Invitational on March 26-27, followed by a trip to Kearney, Nebraska, for the Central Nebraska Challenge on March 28.
