No. 11 Doane Defeats (RV) Warriors on Senior Night
FREMONT, Neb. — (RV) Midland University hosted No. 11-ranked Doane University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) men's wrestling dual Friday night inside the Wikert Event Center. The Tigers handled the Warriors, winning 50-3.
Prior to the dual, Midland recognized its lone senior, Zeph Sivels. The Omaha, Nebraska, native is ranked fourth in the NAIA at 285 pounds and was honored before competition began.
At 125 pounds, Doane's Ray Ray Harris, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, defeated Midland's Dylan Atherton by fall at 0:58. At 133 pounds, seventh-ranked Matthew Terrence earned a victory as Midland was open, giving Doane a 12-0 lead after two bouts.
Doane continued to build its advantage at 141 pounds, where Tristen Brown claimed a win with Midland open. At 149 pounds, Quentyn Frank defeated Midland's Zion Amerson by decision, 8-2, as the Tigers extended their lead to 21-0.
At 157 pounds, third-ranked Ben Miller pinned Midland's Francisco Duran at 3:18. Doane added another win at 165 pounds with Midland open, pushing the score to 33-0 after six bouts.
Jake Prudek, ranked 25th in the NAIA, earned a victory at 174 pounds with Midland open. At 184 pounds, top-ranked Tyson Beauperthuy defeated 18th-ranked Nate McDonald by technical fall, 21-5, at 3:38. Doane led 46-0 after eight bouts.
At 197 pounds, 11th-ranked Jaren Jackson pinned Midland's Collin Stone at 1:01. In the final bout at 285 pounds, Sivels secured Midland's lone points with a 2-1 decision over Doane's Eli Criblez. Doane claimed the dual, 50-3.
Midland will resume action Saturday, Feb. 7, at GPAC Duals No. 2, hosted by Doane. The Warriors will compete in three duals against Briar Cliff at 12:30 p.m., Waldorf at 2 p.m., and Northwestern at 3:30 p.m. inside the Haddix Center in Crete, Nebraska.
