Warriors' Comeback Falls Short Against CSM
FREMONT, Neb. — Midland hosted College of Saint Mary on Wednesday night for its final regular-season home game. A first-half surge by the Flames forced Midland to a tough 71-63 defeat.
The Flames opened the game on a 15-0 run in the first five minutes of action. Ellie Bovaird broke the Warriors' scoring drought with a jump shot, but the Flames quickly responded with a 6-1 run. A layup and two free throws by Jenna Weber sparked a 4-0 Midland run, but CSM closed out the first quarter at the line to take a 23-7 lead.
After the short break, the Flames opened the second quarter with two free throws before Addy Offutt and Allie Hakimzadeh hit consecutive 3-pointers to ignite a 12-2 Midland run, cutting the deficit to 27-19. Back-to-back timeouts were called before CSM answered with a layup and a free throw. Weber and Bovaird then connected to spark a 7-0 run, trimming the margin to 30-26. CSM finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 35-26 at halftime.
Following intermission, the Flames opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 42-26, prompting a Midland timeout. Out of the break, Skylar Indra hit a 3-pointer, followed by a Bovaird layup. CSM added pressure with a 6-2 run before the teams traded baskets down the stretch, with the Flames leading 52-39 at the end of the third.
CSM began the fourth quarter with a layup and a free throw before Weber and Offutt combined for a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 10, forcing another Midland timeout. After the break, both teams traded baskets, and CSM added three free throws. Armani Brazile knocked down a 3-pointer, and Bovaird followed with a basket and free throw to cap a 7-0 run, cutting the lead to 62-53. Midland called another timeout, but CSM responded with a 5-2 run. Weber and Bovaird helped the Warriors close the game on an 8-2 run, but Midland ultimately fell short, 71-63.
Bovaird led the Warriors with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Weber added 17 points and six rebounds.
Midland shot 22-of-76 (28.9%), while College of Saint Mary finished 23-of-49 (46.9%). CSM held a slight rebounding advantage, 44-41.
Midland (3-24, 2-19 GPAC) will close out its 2026 season in Crete, Nebraska, against Doane University (12-14, 9-12 GPAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
