CRETE, Neb. – Midland University took a short trip to Crete, Nebraska, on Wednesday night to continue conference play against Doane University. A pair of late first-half free-kick goals lifted the Tigers to a 2-0 shutout win over the Warriors.
Doane got on the board first late in the opening half with free-kick opportunities after fouls were called on the Warriors. The Tigers capitalized with back-to-back goals in the 37th and 43rd minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
After intermission, the Warriors continued to battle, but the Tigers held them scoreless for the remaining 45 minutes to secure the 2-0 victory. Doane led in shot attempts 19-8, including a 10-6 edge on goal.
Midland (1-9-0, 0-6 GPAC) will host Dakota Wesleyan (2-2-6, 1-1-3 GPAC) in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 11. The match is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
