Late Goals Push Dakota Wesleyan Past Midland

FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted Dakota Wesleyan for a Great Plains Athletic Conference match Saturday night. A pair of late goals by the Tigers lifted them to a 2-0 shutout win over the Warriors.

The first 45 minutes were scoreless, as both teams battled evenly. The Tigers held the edge in shot attempts, 11-5, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. The teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

After the break, the deadlock continued until the 83rd minute, when Dakota Wesleyan broke through to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added an insurance goal in the 89th minute off a free kick that sailed just over the Midland goalkeeper's hands, sealing the 2-0 victory and handing the Warriors a tough home loss.

Midland goalkeeper Ava Brandt played the full 90 minutes, recording seven saves on the night.

Dakota Wesleyan outshot Midland 23-8 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Midland (1-10-1, 0-7 GPAC) will host Concordia University on Wednesday, Oct. 15, for another GPAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont.
