ORLANDO, Fla. – On the opening day of its spring break trip to Florida, Midland University took on New College of Florida in a neutral-site matchup. The Warriors dropped a 5-2 decision to the Mighty Banyans on Wednesday afternoon.

New College claimed the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Midland's lone doubles victory came at No. 3, where Lillie Johnston and Andrea Vasquez rolled to a 6-1 win over Alexandra Sibrikova and Gia Rizzo.

In singles play, the Warriors picked up two wins. Vasquez posted a straight-sets victory at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-4, while Johnston secured a hard-fought win at No. 6, 7-5, 6-4. New College earned straight-set wins at the top four positions to clinch the team victory.

Midland will continue its trip with two more matches on Thursday. The Warriors will face St. Thomas and Southeastern at the USTA Tennis Complex in Orlando.
