Warriors Begin Outdoor Season in Kansas

HAYS, Kan. – Midland University kicked off its spring outdoor season amidst challenging weather conditions at the Fort Hays State Invite on Friday. Despite battling the wind and cold, the Warriors showcased their talents across various events.

In the high jump event, Krista Hardy demonstrated her skill by securing a 6th-place finish with a height of 1.52m, while teammate Shyanne Pipkin claimed the 9th spot with a clearing of 1.47m.

The long jump proved fruitful for Midland as three Warriors clinched positions among the top ten. Madyson Ray seized 4th place with an impressive leap of 5.29m, closely followed by Neenah Guerrero in 5th place with a distance of 5.23m. Emma Strom rounded off the trio, securing the 8th spot with a jump of 5.06m.

Maggie Heesch showcased her strength in the throwing events, achieving a pair of top-five performances. Heesch secured the 5th position in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.78m and claimed 4th place in the shot put with a toss of 12.92m.

On the track, Madyson Ray clocked a time of 17.08 to secure 9th in the 100m hurdles. Nevaeh Sarabia showcased her speed in the 400m event, finishing 8th with a time of 1:03.63. Emma Strom claimed 9th place in the 100m, crossing the line with a time of 12.49.

In the 5000m race, Myia Johnson demonstrated her endurance with a runner-up time of 21:19.60. She was closely followed by Magdalena De La O in 3rd place with a time of 21:19.69.

The Warriors' relay team comprising Sarabia, Guerrero, Strom, and Amber Rodgers delivered a commendable performance in the 4x400m relay, clinching the 3rd position with a time of 4:27.69.

Midland will be back in action in just over a week as the spring season starts to take off. The Warriors will take part in the Central Nebraska Challenge on Saturday, March 30 in Kearney, Neb.
