Warriors Soar to Several Top Marks at Wildcat Classic
WAYNE, Neb. – Midland University was back on the track in the field as it competed at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic over the weekend. The Warriors had several strong showings, competing against athletes from several NAIA schools as well as a few NCAA teams.
Neenah Guerrero sprinted her way to a 3rd-place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.72 seconds. Emma Strom placed 6th in the 200-meter event with a time of 27.32 seconds.
Nevaeh Sarabia claimed 3rd in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:23.10. Myia Johnson came out on top in the 5000-meter race, clinching victory with a swift time of 19:26.06.
In hurdles action, Madyson Ray dashed her way to an 8th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 17.08 seconds. The relay team of Amber Rodgers, Strom, Guerrero, and Dala Drowne propelled the Warriors to a 3rd-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 50.04 seconds.
Turning to the field events, Drowne and Krista Hardy tied for 3rd place in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters, while Shyanne Pipkin claimed 5th with a height of 1.55 meters. Madison Jones soared to new heights in the pole vault, securing runner-up honors with a height of 2.68 meters.
Guerrero showcased her versatility with a 4th-place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 5.19 meters. Maggie Heesch displayed her strength in the throwing event, claiming 4th place in the shot put with a toss of 13.13 meters, and replicated her performance in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.61 meters.
Pipkin added to her day with a runner-up placing in the javelin event with a distance of 35.41 meters, while Ray rounded off the competition with a 7th-place finish, recording a throw of 32.16 meters.
The Warriors will look to continue to build upon their early-season marks next week at the Concordia Invitational. The meet gets underway on Friday, April 5 in Seward, Nebraska.
