Panthers Slip by Warriors

YORK, Neb. — The York Panthers defeated the (RV) Midland Warriors, 26-21, in a nonconference women's wrestling dual Friday night at Holthus Field House.

Midland slipped to 1-1 in dual action this season, while the Panthers improved to 1-3.

In the 103-pound bout, York's Jocelyn Prado defeated Midland's Kyra Gonzalez by fall at 1:14. The Warriors responded at 110 pounds as Destiny Castillo earned a technical fall victory over Grace Conner, 13-3, at 4:17. After the opening two bouts, York led 6-4.

No. 16 Taylor Hood put Midland in front at 117 pounds with a fall over Makayla Meyer at 0:31. Midland extended its lead in the 124-pound bout when Alexis Oliver earned a victory via forfeit, giving the Warriors a 14-6 advantage after four bouts.

Midland added to its lead at 131 pounds as Maci Avila defeated Jill High by an 18-10 decision. Avila, ranked No. 6 at 138 pounds, wrestled down a weight class to secure the win. York picked up points at 138 pounds as Ryanne Dunn claimed a victory due to an open weight for Midland. After six bouts, the Warriors led 17-12.

In the 145-pound bout, York's Madison Davis defeated Midland's Danielle Franco by technical fall, 10-0, at 4:24. Midland answered at 160 pounds when Ja'Nya Banks earned a technical fall over Piper Kunnap, 11-0, at 4:24. With two bouts remaining, Midland held a 21-16 lead.

At 180 pounds, York's Angie Rose pinned Midland's Hallie Stone at 0:40 to tie the dual at 21-21. The Panthers sealed the victory at 207 pounds as Kodi Tayler claimed a win by forfeit.

Both teams will compete Saturday at the York Open. Action at Holthus Field House is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
