No. 16 Hastings Sneaks by (RV) Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. — (RV) Midland University hosted No. 16-ranked Hastings College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women's wrestling dual Friday night inside the Wikert Event Center. The Broncos recorded a narrow conference win, 23-22.

Prior to the dual, Midland recognized three wrestlers as part of Senior Night festivities: Zoe Omura (Mililani, Hawaii), Eny Bravo (Norfolk, Nebraska), and Maci Avila (Henderson, Nevada).

In the 103-pound bout, Omura defeated Hastings' Miranda LaJevic by technical fall, 10-0, at 3:38. At 110 pounds, Hastings' Chloe Brewis defeated Destiny Castillo by technical fall, 10-0, at 2:17, leaving the dual tied 4-4 after two bouts.

At 117 pounds, Midland's Taylor Hood, ranked 17th in the NAIA, pinned Sarah Spataro at 0:56. Hastings answered at 124 pounds as Jessica Farmer defeated Alexis Oliver by technical fall, 10-0, at 1:17, giving Midland a 9-8 lead after four bouts.

Hastings took the lead at 131 pounds as eighth-ranked Larissa Kaz pinned Eny Bravo at 1:18, earning her 100th career collegiate victory. Midland responded at 138 pounds with sixth-ranked Maci Avila defeating Lisa Hoeflich by technical fall, 10-0, at 2:40, tying the dual at 13-13 after six bouts.

At 145 pounds, Hastings' third-ranked Reagan Gallaway pinned Andrea Frisque at 1:04. Midland picked up a key win at 160 pounds as Ja'Nya Banks earned an upset victory over 18th-ranked Jayla Ford by technical fall, 10-0, at 3:00, with Hastings holding an 18-17 advantage after eight bouts.

In the penultimate bout at 180 pounds, Midland's Makenna Schramm pinned Rhees Hatch at 0:59. Hastings secured the dual victory in the 207-pound bout as 14th-ranked Taylor Rickey won by forfeit, giving the Broncos the 23-22 win.

Midland will resume action on Saturday morning, hosting the annual Warrior Open. Competition gets underway at 9:00 a.m. inside the Wikert Event Center.
