No. 12 Doane Too Much for (RV) Warriors
CRETE, Neb. – (RV) Midland University competed in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual Wednesday night, taking on No. 12 Doane University on the road. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 43-5. Midland was open at four weight classes, and Doane earned five victories via bonus points.
At 103 pounds, No. 18 Kimberly Navarrete claimed victory as Midland was open. In the 110-pound bout, Karina Vang, ranked No. 12 at 103 pounds, wrestled up for Doane and defeated Midland's Destiny Castillo by fall at 1:46. After two bouts, Doane led 10-0.
In the 117-pound bout, Midland was open, allowing No. 11 Angelica Vicente Gonzalez to claim victory. At 124 pounds, Doane's No. 1 Cristelle Rodriguez defeated Midland's Alexis Oliver by fall at 0:42. After four bouts, Doane led 20-0.
At 131 pounds, Doane's No. 12 Ashlee Palimo'o defeated Midland's Eny Bravo by technical fall, 12-0, at 4:43. The Warriors picked up their lone win at 138 pounds, as No. 12 Maci Avila defeated Payton Weese by fall at 0:55. After six bouts, Doane led 24-5.
In the 145-pound bout, Doane's No. 16 Bridgette Sotomayor defeated Midland's Danielle Franco by technical fall, 10-0, at 3:35. At 160 pounds, Doane's Lamia Benn defeated Midland's Hallie Stone by fall at 2:37. With two bouts remaining, the Tigers led 33-5.
Midland was open in the final two weight classes. At 180 pounds, No. 20 Yazmin Belk claimed the victory. In the 207-pound bout, No. 3 Jessica Rodriguez took the win, sealing the Tigers' 43-5 victory.
The Warriors will return to Crete for the GPAC Duals on Saturday, Feb. 14. Midland will take on Waldorf at 11 a.m. and Dakota Wesleyan at noon at the Haddix Center.
