Warriors Impress at GPAC Duals

CRETE, Neb. – (RV) Midland University competed at the GPAC Women's Wrestling Duals on Saturday at the Haddix Center. The Warriors faced (RV) Waldorf, Dakota Wesleyan, and Morningside, finishing 3-0 on the day.

In the first dual, Midland defeated Waldorf 30-18. At 103 pounds, 16th-ranked Mackenzie Gilbert defeated Midland's Kyra Gonzalez by fall at 1:05. At 110 pounds, Destiny Castillo earned a 16-6 technical fall over Edyn Hartman at 5:47. After two bouts, Midland trailed 6-4.

At 117 pounds, 12th-ranked Taylor Hood won by fall over Lila Sheehan at 0:26. In the 124-pound bout, Alexis Oliver secured a fall against Abigail Atibagos at 1:09, giving Midland a 14-6 lead after four bouts.

Izzy Urban defeated Eny Bravo by 14-4 technical fall at 4:46 in the 131-pound bout. At 138 pounds, 12th-ranked Maci Avila earned a 10-0 technical fall over Emily Hibner at 0:51. Midland led 19-10 after six bouts.

At 145 pounds, Andrea Frisque dropped a 6-6 decision to Niah Smith via criteria. In the 160-pound bout, 17th-ranked Ja'Nya Banks won by fall over Renee Miguel at 3:54. Midland extended its lead to 25-13 after eight bouts.

Makena Schramm won by forfeit at 180 pounds, while Midland was open at 207 pounds, giving Skylar Bruno the victory. The Warriors secured the dual, 30-18.

Midland continued its momentum in the second dual, defeating Dakota Wesleyan 39-9. The Tigers were open at 103, 110, and 117 pounds, allowing Kyra Gonzalez, Destiny Castillo, and Taylor Hood to claim victories. At 124 pounds, Alexis Oliver pinned Kaylei Hinck at 0:22, giving Midland a 20-0 lead after four bouts.

Isabelle Camarillo defeated Eny Bravo by 12-0 technical fall at 3:49 in the 131-pound bout. Maci Avila responded with a 10-0 technical fall over Tiara Faehnrich at 1:11 at 138 pounds. Midland led 24-4 after six bouts.

Danielle Franco won by forfeit at 145 pounds. At 160 pounds, Ja'Nya Banks secured a fall over Sava'nah Norte at 0:30, pushing the lead to 34-4 after eight bouts.

Makena Schramm added a forfeit win at 180 pounds. Midland was open at 207 pounds, allowing Kaitlin Gay the victory, but the Warriors still claimed the dual, 39-9.

In the final dual of the day, Midland defeated Morningside 33-10. Kyra Gonzalez won by forfeit at 103 pounds. At 110 pounds, Destiny Castillo earned a 10-0 technical fall over Alyssa Olson at 2:53 to give Midland a 9-0 lead.

Taylor Hood won by forfeit at 117 pounds before Alexis Oliver was pinned by Callee Shearer at 1:23 in the 124-pound bout. Midland led 14-5 after four bouts.

Kelise Krivohlavek pinned Eny Bravo at 1:02 in the 131-pound bout. Maci Avila answered with a fall over Elizabeth Rubio at 0:10 in the 138-pound match, and Midland held a 19-10 advantage after six bouts.

Danielle Franco earned a forfeit win at 145 pounds. At 160 pounds, Ja'Nya Banks recorded an 11-0 technical fall over Baylie Wehmeyer at 1:40, extending the lead to 28-10 with two bouts remaining.

Makena Schramm picked up another forfeit at 180 pounds. Both teams were open at 207 pounds, and Midland secured the 33-10 victory.

Midland returns to action at the GPAC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 28, in Hastings, Nebraska.
