Warriors Earn First Win of Season, Defeat Missouri Valley at Home
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University returned to action Saturday, welcoming Missouri Valley College for a nonconference matchup inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The Warriors claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches, then secured a 6-1 victory with five wins in singles play.
Phillip Olsson and Unai Llerena earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Bogdan Zakharov and Luca Stadtfeld. Zhanxing Yu and Martin Cisneros clinched the opening team point with a 6-3 victory against Pablo Perez and Felix Ortola at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Missouri Valley's lone win came at No. 2, with Midland sweeping the remaining matchups. At No. 1, Cisneros defeated Alexander Ballinger in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Llerena followed with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win over Zakharov at No. 3.
Olsson posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Luca Stadtfeld at No. 4, while Yu was tested at No. 5 before pulling out a straight-sets win, 6-4, 7-5, over David Schlageter. Angel Bustos sealed the match at No. 6, defeating Vincente Leigh, 6-1, 6-4.
Midland (1-3) returns to action Saturday evening, traveling to face Omaha (0-5). The dual against the NCAA Division I opponent is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start in Omaha.
