Warriors Drop Nonconference Match to McPherson

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University was back in action Saturday afternoon as it hosted McPherson College inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The Warriors dropped the nonconference matchup to the Bulldogs, 5-2.

McPherson claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Hamish Wyatt and Arthur Nardy defeated Philip Olsson and Unai Llerena, 6-3. Jayson Wasserfuhr and Bruno Barrientos Molina earned a 6-3 win over Zhanxing Yu and Martin Cisneros at No. 2, while Balazs Temesvari and Davian Spies edged Angel Bustos and Jaime De Diego, 6-4, at No. 3.

Midland responded with a pair of singles victories. At No. 1 singles, Olsson earned a straight-set win over Nardy, 6-4, 6-3, to put the Warriors on the board. Yu followed with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 4 singles. After dropping the opening set 7-5 to Wyatt, he bounced back with a 6-4 second-set win and secured the match in a 10-5 tiebreak.

The Bulldogs secured the team win with victories in the remaining four singles matches. At No. 3 singles, Barrientos Molina topped Llerena, 6-4, 6-3. Wyatt rallied past Yu at No. 4 singles, winning 5-7, 6-4, before taking the 10-5 super tiebreak. Temesvari posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bustos at No. 5, and Texas Ranger Schmidt closed the afternoon with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against De Diego at No. 6.

Midland (2-5) will regroup before heading to Florida for a week of games. The Warriors will face four foes beginning on Wednesday, March 11, in Orlando.
