Warriors Open Fall Season at GPAC Individual Tourney

LINCOLN, Neb. – Midland University joined other schools from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) this weekend to compete in a singles and doubles tournament at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Warriors had six men and three women in action during the two-day event.

On the men's side, newcomer Zhanxing Yu picked up an opening-round win in the second flight over Ben Harper of Hastings, 6-3, 6-2. That was the lone bright spot, however, as Angel Bustos and Daniel Liebig fell in the top flight, Marcin Gniadzik lost in the second flight, Cayden Brandner was defeated in the fourth flight, and Miller Hatterman dropped his lone match in the fifth flight.

In doubles play, all three Midland pairings were eliminated in their openers. The tandems included Bustos and Gniadzik, Liebig and Yu, and Brandner and Hatterman.

On the women's side, all three Warriors dropped their opening-round singles matches. Ai Katsura and Graziela Dallagnol fell in the top flight, while Lillie Johnston lost in the fourth. Katsura and Dallagnol also teamed up in the top flight of doubles, falling in their lone match.

Up next, Midland will compete in the ITA Regionals in two weeks. The three-day tournament begins Friday, Sept. 26, in Salina, Kansas.
