Warriors Open Spring Against Grinnell
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University returned to the courts inside the Fremont YMCA on Saturday, officially opening the spring season with a non-conference dual against Grinnell College. The Warriors earned wins in two of the three doubles matches but ultimately fell to the Pioneers, 5-2.
Daniel Liebig and Una Llerena earned a 6-1 victory over Maxi Gutbezahl and Alex Doane at No. 2 doubles. The duo of Zhanxing Yu and Martin Cisneros clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win against Kaan MacDonald and Gervase Ngo.
In singles action, Yu was the lone Warrior to pick up a victory. He secured a three-set win, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, over Aman Kothari to earn Midland's second team point. Llerena and Cisneros also pushed their opponents to three sets in the closely contested dual.
Midland (0-2) returns to action Sunday when it hosts Gustavus Adolphus. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Fremont YMCA.
