Warriors Drop Sunday Matchup to Gustavus Adolphus

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday inside the Fremont YMCA, but the Warriors came up short in a 5-1 nonconference loss to the Golden Gusties.

Gustavus Adolphus took the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Takura Mhwandagara and Ali Derbani defeated Marcin Gniadzik and Angel Bustos, 6-2, while Yash Bahalkar and Ethan Ellor earned a 6-3 win over Zhanxing Yu and Martin Cisneros at No. 3. Midland's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Daniel Liebig and Unai Llerena edged Quinn Monson and Joseph Li in a tiebreak, 7-6 (8-6).

In singles play, the Golden Gusties claimed four of the six matches. Midland's only point came at No. 4 singles as Llerena earned a straight-sets victory over Derbani, 6-2, 7-5. Gustavus Adolphus picked up wins at No. 1 (Mhwandagara over Liebig), No. 2 (Monson over Cisneros), No. 3 (Bahalkar over Gniadzik), No. 5 (Li over Yu in a match tiebreak), and No. 6 (Ellor over Bustos).

Midland (0-3) will be back in action later this week when they host Missouri Valley on Friday afternoon. Action gets underway at 3:00 p.m. on February 6 at the Fremont YMCA.
